Skilled Migration
Skilled workers can live and work in Australia under the Australian General Skilled Migration (SkillSelect) Program. This system allows qualified and skilled foreign nationals to use their qualifications, experience and language skills to apply for a permanent Australian visa. Check your eligibility against the basic checklist below:
- Should be under 45
- Should have a qualification and experience in a Combined current list of eligible skilled occupations.
- Your skills should be assessed by the designated Australian assessing authority.
- English Language skills
- Should be healthy
- Should be of good character
Your application for a skilled visa will be evaluated against several selection criteria, and a point-based test score will be given. You will be required to meet the requisite English language skills and get the necessary skills assessment prior to submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI) to SkillSelect, the Skilled Migrant Selection Register set up by Australian Department of Home Affairs. SkillSelect is an electronic two-step process where prospective visa applicants must submit an EOI online.
If granted a permanent Australian visa, you will be able to live, work and go to school in the country, and will be entitled to receive public healthcare administered by the Australian government. If you have any dependents between the ages of six and eighteen, they can attend public schools run by the government.
