Temporary Work Visas
Work opportunities in Australia are plentiful, and the Government welcomes skilled workers in a number of professions. To spend time working in Australia you will need a work visa, and it is likely that you will need to have an occupation that is on a Skilled Occupation List. This list is updated regularly.
The Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Visa subclass 482 enables employers to fill up labour shortages by bringing in genuinely skilled workers, in cases where they are not able to source an appropriately skilled Australian. There are three streams under this category: Short-Term, Medium-Term and Labour
Agreement Streams. Under the TSS Visa, you can stay for a period of one to four years, depending on your nominated occupation, the visa stream and your circumstances.
There are many more visa types under this category; the most popular among them being the following
- Skilled-Recognised Graduate Visa (subclass 476): Recent Engineering graduates from specified institutions can use this visa to live, study or work in Australia up to 18 months. You should be below 31 years of age and you can bring your family. Most applications get processed in 7 months.
- Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485) allows international students to live, study and work after graduation for 18 months (graduate work stream) or 2 to 4 years (postgraduate work stream). Processing times will vary.
